Berdimuhamedov discussed with the head of SOCAR the preparation of the Agreement on the “Dostluk” field

Today President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov received the head of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev.

Expressing gratitude for the time allotted for the meeting, the guest conveyed warm words of greetings to the head of Turkmenistan from President Ilham Aliyev, who confirmed the interest of the Azerbaijani side in steadily building up the traditional partnership across the entire spectrum of areas.

Addressing reciprocal best wishes to the top leadership of Azerbaijan, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the good-neighborly nature of the Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations, which are based on centuries-old bonds of friendship, the common history and culture of the two fraternal peoples. Today, thanks to the efforts of the parties, the interstate dialogue is acquiring a new concrete content. The existing high level of trust and mutual understanding, as well as the similarity of approaches on topical issues of the regional and global agenda, are a solid basis for the further development of fruitful cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, which was held in a businesslike, constructive manner, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan have enormous economic, energy and transport and logistics potential, and this opens up wide opportunities for productive interaction in strategically important areas.

In this regard, an exchange of views took place on the prospects for partnership in the oil and gas industry, the implementation of joint projects. Issues related to exploration, development and development of hydrocarbon resources of the Dostluk field in the Caspian Sea were the subject of a thorough discussion.

Particular emphasis was placed on the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding signed in January of this year between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan concerning this field, on the basis of which a draft of the corresponding bilateral Agreements.

As noted, the signing of this historic document was an important event from the point of view of further strengthening and development of the Turkmen-Azerbaijani cooperation in the field of energy in the Caspian Sea. In addition, new opportunities for joint work are opening up and additional incentives are being created to attract large foreign investment to the region on a long-term basis.

Paying great attention to the issues of introducing advanced experience and high technologies into the fuel and energy complex, as well as the latest scientific and technical developments, our country is always open for mutually beneficial partnerships with leading foreign companies, the head of state noted.

In turn, the head of the Azerbaijan State Oil Company stressed that the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan is developing at a dynamic pace, large-scale projects are being implemented in this area. In general, all this serves as a good basis for productive joint work of specialists from the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the head of SOCAR exchanged good wishes, expressing mutual confidence in strengthening the age-old ties of friendship and brotherhood between the Turkmen and Azerbaijani peoples, as well as in the successful continuation of bilateral cooperation, built on an equal, mutually beneficial basis.
