Results of the work of Turkmenistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the first quarter of 2026: strengthening international relations

At the Cabinet of Ministers meeting held via digital system on April 3, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reported on the Ministry’s activities for January–March of the current year. This was reported by the "Turkmenistan: Golden Age" online newspaper.
It was noted that during this period, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs implemented concrete measures to realize the foreign policy of the President of Turkmenistan, fulfill the tasks and instructions of the head of state to strengthen bilateral and multilateral relations of our independent, permanently neutral homeland with countries around the world and international organizations.
High-level visits and meetings continue to play an important role in the development of international cooperation. In this context, it was reported that in February of this year, the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty, Hero-Arkadag, visited the United States, and in March, the People’s Republic of China.
Currently, the national diplomatic service, together with foreign affairs agencies of various countries, is carrying out work to organize in 2026 visits abroad by the President of Turkmenistan and Hero-Arkadag.
One of the key directions of Turkmenistan’s foreign policy strategy is the development of cooperation with reputable international organizations. In this regard, from January 21–23, the Director-General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization visited the country, and from March 17–19, the Secretary-General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA) paid a visit.
During the reporting period, a total of 158 foreign delegations visited Turkmenistan through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while 265 delegations were sent abroad from Turkmenistan.
From January to March of this year, 122 meetings of various levels were held via digital system. Additionally, 520 official negotiations and meetings were organized in Turkmenistan jointly with foreign countries and international organizations. The legal framework for international relations of Turkmenistan was supplemented with 30 new documents.
It was reported that this work is conducted to hold political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and foreign affairs agencies of other countries. During the reporting period, political consultations took place at the ministerial level with the foreign ministries of Austria, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the People’s Republic of China.
In addition, negotiations were held with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization.
Furthermore, in January–March, consultations were held with the foreign ministries of India, the Kingdom of Morocco, the Russian Federation, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Republic of Azerbaijan, and the Republic of Uganda.
Another key direction of neutral Turkmenistan’s foreign policy is the development of diplomatic relations through the embassies of foreign countries. Work is also underway to strengthen ties with Middle Eastern countries. In this context, it was reported that during the reporting period, a diplomatic mission of the Republic of Iraq was opened and began operations in Turkmenistan.
From January to March 2026, credentials were received from the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Chad to Turkmenistan.
Additionally, credentials were presented by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Kingdom of Thailand, as well as by Turkmenistan’s Permanent Representatives to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and to the International Renewable Energy Agency, who officially began performing their duties.
After hearing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that independent, permanently neutral Turkmenistan implements foreign policy aimed at ensuring universal well-being, and consistently develops equal and mutually beneficial cooperation with all countries and international organizations. In this regard, the head of state instructed the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to continue work to expand relations with countries around the world and the region in political-diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian, and scientific-educational spheres.
