Turkmenistan outlines priority areas of cooperation with CIS countries

On April 17, 2026, a regular meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Moscow. The delegation of Turkmenistan was headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov, as reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Emphasizing Turkmenistan’s priority areas and positions, the head of the delegation, Gurbanov, noted the constructive nature of cooperation within the CIS framework, which holds significant potential for joint activities.

Special attention during the meeting was traditionally given to issues of interaction among the ministries of foreign affairs of the CIS member states.

Following the meeting, decisions were adopted aimed at strengthening foreign policy coordination and expanding cooperation in the political, trade and economic, as well as cultural and humanitarian spheres.

The next meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers is scheduled for October 2026 in Turkmenistan.

On the same day in Moscow, the ninth meeting of foreign ministers in the «Central Asia – Russia» format was also held.

In accordance with the agenda, participants reviewed the implementation of the Joint Action Plan for 2025–2027, adopted last year at the second «Central Asia – Russia» Summit.

A traditional exchange of views took place on enhancing cooperation in addressing pressing issues on the international agenda, including aspects of maintaining and strengthening regional security.
