Speaking at the Regional Environmental Summit in Astana on April 22, Honorable President Serdar Berdimuhamedov put forward initiatives to establish two important structures to address the environmental issues of Central Asia — the Regional Center for Climate Technologies and the Regional Center for Combating Desertification. This was reported by the electronic newspaper "Turkmenistan: Golden Age."
It is proposed to establish the Regional Center for Climate Technologies under the auspices of the United Nations. This specialized structure will be engaged in implementing the most modern scientific and technological solutions and innovations in the fight against climate change in the region. The center will ensure the adaptation of the best international scientific achievements to the conditions of Central Asia.
At the same time, the Head of State drew attention to the necessity of creating a Regional Center for Combating Desertification for the countries of Central Asia. The main goal of this center is to coordinate practical measures against soil degradation and the intensification of the desertification process. The new structure will unite the efforts of the regional states in this direction, carrying out joint work to maintain soil fertility and create new forest zones.
The activities of these proposed centers will allow for a more accurate, advanced, and practice-based response to environmental risks and threats. Locating such centers directly within the region, close to ecologically significant sites, will help to further increase their efficiency and foster the experience of cooperation with national infrastructures.
These initiatives of the Honorable President once again proved Turkmenistan's commitment to implementing "green" growth principles and sustainable environmental standards in the region. The new centers will serve as an important tool for preserving the region's natural resources and creating a favorable environmental environment for future generations.
