Turkmenistan takes the cooperation of Caspian states to a new level

Speaking at the Regional Environmental Summit in Astana on April 22, Honorable President Serdar Berdimuhamedov detailed Turkmenistan's strategic views on the environmental issues of the Caspian Sea and international cooperation in this field. The Head of State particularly emphasized that the preservation of the unique ecosystem of the Caspian Sea is of not only regional but also global significance. This was reported by the "Turkmenistan: Golden Age" electronic newspaper.

The Caspian Environmental Initiative, put forward by Turkmenistan within the framework of the United Nations, confirms the priority of this direction. Currently, a specific and comprehensive Concept for the implementation of this initiative has been developed and sent to all Caspian states for coordination. This document envisages uniting the efforts of coastal countries in nature conservation and taking cooperation to a new, systematic level.

In this regard, referring to the positive experience of consultations held within the UN in August of this year, the Honorable President proposed to hold the next high-level meeting on the environmental issues of the Caspian Sea in early October 2026. This high-level forum will serve as the main platform for ensuring the environmental well-being of the Caspian states and will launch a new stage of regional cooperation.

As the Head of State noted, environmental diplomacy regarding the Caspian Sea consists not only of consultations but also includes practical measures — preserving the biological diversity of the sea, combating water pollution, and implementing sustainable development standards. These initiatives prove once again that Turkmenistan is a supporter of peace, good neighborliness, and environmental sustainability in the Caspian region.
