At a meeting of Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan held via digital system on May 1, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reported on the outcomes of the Ministry’s activities for January–April of current year.
As noted, during the period under review, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan implemented specific steps to carry out the foreign policy of President of Turkmenistan and to fulfill the tasks and instructions of the Head of State aimed at strengthening bilateral and multilateral relations of our independent, permanently neutral Homeland with countries of the world and international organizations.
As is well known, high-level visits and meetings are of great importance in the development of international cooperation. In this regard, it was reported that visits were organized by the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan, Hero-Arkadag, to the United States of America on February 16–19, to the People’s Republic of China on March 18–19, and to the Republic of Austria on April 8–9 of this year.
In addition, on April 21–22, the President of Turkmenistan paid a working visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan to participate in the Regional Environmental Summit and the regular meeting of the Council of Heads of Founding States of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
One of the key areas of the country’s foreign policy strategy is the development of cooperation with authoritative international organizations. In this context, during his visit to the Republic of Austria, Hero-Arkadag held meetings with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Moreover, on January 21–23, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations visited Turkmenistan, and on March 17–19, the Secretary-General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia paid a visit to the country.
During the reporting period, 220 foreign delegations visited Turkmenistan through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while 400 delegations were sent abroad from Turkmenistan.
In January–April of this year, 169 meetings at various levels were held via digital system. In addition, 711 official negotiations and meetings were organized in Turkmenistan jointly with foreign states and international organizations. The legal framework of the country’s international relations was expanded by 57 documents.
As reported, relevant work is being carried out to conduct political consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan and the foreign ministries of other states. In the period under review, political consultations were held at the level of foreign ministers between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Austria, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the People’s Republic of China.
In addition, during January–April, consultations were held with the foreign ministries of the Republic of India, the Kingdom of Morocco, the Russian Federation, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Uganda, and the Republic of Korea.
One of the important vectors of neutral Turkmenistan’s foreign policy is the development of diplomatic relations through the embassies of foreign states.
Work to strengthen ties with the countries of the Middle East also continues. In this context, it was reported that during the reporting period, the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Iraq was opened and began its work in Turkmenistan.
In January–April 2026, credentials were received from the newly appointed Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassadors of the Republic of Chad, the Republic of Indonesia, the Italian Republic, the Republic of Korea, the Argentine Republic, and the Arab Republic of Egypt to Turkmenistan.
At the same time, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassadors of Turkmenistan to the Kingdom of Thailand and the United States of America, as well as the Permanent Representatives of Turkmenistan to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, to the International Renewable Energy Agency, and to the United Nations, presented their credentials and officially assumed their duties.
