Turkmenistan and Cambodia enter a new stage of relations

On May 8, the first-ever political consultations between the foreign ministries of Turkmenistan and the Kingdom of Cambodia were held in Phnom Penh. The Turkmen delegation was led by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Gurbanov, while the Cambodian side was headed by Ung Rachana, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. This was reported by the information service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation. It was noted that holding regular consultations serves as an important tool for raising relations to a new level and identifying promising areas of partnership. The sides also emphasized the significance of organizing high-level visits and intensifying inter-parliamentary ties, including the activities of friendship groups.

High praise was given to the mutual support between the two countries in the international arena, particularly within the UN framework. The Turkmen side expressed gratitude for Cambodia's contribution to supporting the international initiatives of our country, including co-authoring UN Resolutions. Additionally, Cambodia’s support for Turkmenistan's initiative to establish the "Central Asia + ASEAN" format was highlighted.

In the trade and economic sphere, establishing business contacts and deepening partnership in the textile industry, agriculture, and transport-logistics sectors were identified as priority tasks. The parties exchanged views on the more effective utilization of international transport corridors.

To develop cultural and humanitarian ties, it was proposed to hold reciprocal Days of Culture and establish direct contacts in the tourism industry. Readiness to implement joint projects in the field of education was also expressed. Following the consultations, the diplomats confirmed their commitment to continuing friendly relations that serve the interests of both states.
