On May 13, the 84th international meeting of a Council for Railway Transport of CIS member states opened in Ashgabat. The significance and status of the event were enhanced by the reading of a welcoming address from a President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the participants of the meeting, as reported by an online newspaper «Turkmenistan: Golden age».

As noted in the Head of State’s message, a draft Resolution «United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport 2026–2035», presented on September 23, 2025, at the plenary session of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, was adopted by the United Nations at the end of the same year. This opens broad opportunities for consolidating international efforts through the development of transport corridors, increasing their sustainability, and ensuring accessibility for all countries.

During the meeting, the results of the organization’s activities over the past period were summarized and promising areas of cooperation were discussed. An exchange of views also took place on the implementation of tasks arising from the work program of the Council for Railway Transport of CIS member states.

Speakers noted that Turkmenistan holds an active position in increasing transit cargo transportation volumes in the region. It was emphasized that the radical modernization of transport infrastructure and its development open wide prospects for further deepening international cooperation.

In the second half of the day, the 2nd Forum of «Young Railway Workers» was held within the framework of the 84th meeting, where educational discussions occupied a key place. Important tasks were also defined related to the development of a strategy for sustainable development in the sector and the training of highly qualified specialists for railway transport structures.
