Results of the visit of a Hero-Arkadag to the Republic of Tatarstan reviewed at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan

At the regular meeting of a Cabinet of Ministers held on May 15, a Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reported on the results of the visit of a Hero-Arkadag to the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation on May 13–14 of this year.

As reported, during the visit a National Leader of the Turkmen people held politically significant meetings and negotiations with officials of the Russian Federation, during which prospects for further strengthening interstate relations across a wide range of areas were discussed.

In particular, on May 13, a telephone conversation took place between a Chairman of a Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and a President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin. The discussion focused on the bilateral political agenda, the current state and prospects of economic cooperation, as well as interaction in the fields of education and culture.

Regional and international issues of mutual interest were also considered. Special attention was paid to the agenda of the upcoming meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), which will be held in Turkmenistan in October this year. The need to advance bilateral economic partnership, especially joint activities in key areas such as transport and logistics, was also emphasized.

The Hero-Arkadag put forward a number of concrete proposals aimed at further developing the centuries-old cultural ties between the peoples of the two states.

On the same day, a bilateral meeting was held at a Kazan Kremlin between the National Leader of the Turkmen people Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. Considerable attention was paid to the effective use of the broad opportunities available in the trade and economic sector. Particular emphasis was placed on the historical closeness of the Turkmen and Tatar peoples as a solid foundation for cultural cooperation.

Noting the great importance of partnership in education, the Hero-Arkadag and the Rais of Tatarstan stated that currently about 8,000 young citizens of Turkmenistan are studying in educational institutions of Tatarstan.

The National Leader of the Turkmen people also held a number of meetings with high-ranking officials of the Government of the Russian Federation.

On May 14, the Hero-Arkadag took part in the XVII International Economic Forum «Russia – Islamic World: KazanForum 2026», where he delivered a detailed and scientifically grounded assessment of cultural interaction among the states of the Islamic world.

The importance of the 15th session of the General Conference of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) was also highlighted. Of particular significance was the decision adopted during the ICESCO meeting in Kazan to grant Turkmenistan observer status in the Organization.

On the same day, the Hero-Arkadag visited the equestrian complex in Kazan and watched horse races, which symbolically resonated with the 2026 motto, «Independent Neutral Turkmenistan – the homeland of purposeful winged horses».

The visit of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan to the Russian Federation became one of the significant events in the country’s political life and once again demonstrated the high effectiveness of the foreign policy pursued by the leadership of Turkmenistan.

After hearing the report, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that mutually beneficial relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation are developing productively. The participation of the Hero-Arkadag in the international economic forum and other events in Tatarstan was an important step in strengthening cooperation, the Head of State said, emphasizing the importance of further expanding partnership.
