A regular meeting of members of the Turkmen-Uzbek interparliamentary friendship groups was held at the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. This was reported on the official website of the Mejlis.
As noted in the report, during the meeting held on May 18, the current state and future prospects of interparliamentary cooperation and Turkmen-Uzbek relations were discussed.
The Turkmen side presented the main directions of the country's domestic and foreign policy based on the principles of positive neutrality, peacefulness, humanism, and trust, the composition of the Mejlis, and its multifaceted work on providing the legislative and legal framework for the ongoing programmatic reforms.
During the meeting, it was particularly emphasized that interparliamentary dialogue has become an important part of expanding the scope of cooperation between the two countries, and the interparliamentary friendship groups established on a bilateral basis increase opportunities for exchanging experience in legislative activity.
The interlocutors spoke about the role of meetings and consultations held between relevant committees, young and women parliamentarians in supporting interstate relations through parliamentary diplomacy, and the importance of combining efforts to expand the scope of goodwill cooperation.
The Turkmen side also noted the significance of the Women's Dialogue, the meeting of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, and the upcoming events on demographic issues to be held this year within the framework of Turkmenistan's chairmanship in the CIS.
Turkmen and Uzbek parliamentarians expressed confidence that relations would be further strengthened for the benefit of the prosperity of the peoples of the two countries.
