A Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reported on May 22 at a government meeting on Turkmenistan's cooperation with the World Trade Organization (WTO). This was reported by an online newspaper «Turkmenistan: Golden age».
A number of proposals have been prepared to intensify interaction with the WTO. In particular, it is proposed to hold the next meeting of the relevant working group on June 10 to discuss the final version of the «Memorandum on Turkmenistan's Foreign Trade Rules».
In connection with Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO, one member state must be designated to chair the working group on Turkmenistan established within the Organization. In this regard, a proposal was put forward to jointly begin work with the WTO on selecting and determining a country from among the states of the European and Asia-Pacific regions.
It was also noted that a National Negotiating Group must be established to conduct negotiations related to Turkmenistan's accession to the WTO. To this end, it was proposed to determine and approve the composition of this body, and to prepare a work plan for Group representatives to participate as observers in relevant preparatory trainings and sessions of the Organization.
Summarizing the report, the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to expanding cooperation with international structures, including the WTO, and acknowledged significant potential for deepening these relations. The head of state instructed the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to continue work on developing a productive partnership with the WTO.
