On 28 May 2026, a Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with United Nations Deputy Secretary-General and Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Alexander De Croo, according to a press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the current state and future prospects of cooperation between Turkmenistan and UNDP, including within the framework of the new UNDP Country Programme for Turkmenistan for 2026–2030.
The parties noted the advanced readiness of several new joint projects in the areas of healthcare, human capital development, and strengthening legal capacity.
Special attention was given to cooperation in the healthcare sector, including efforts to enhance the resilience of the national healthcare system, modernize the industry, procure medicines and medical equipment, and support national public health programmes.
The meeting also addressed issues related to social inclusion, support for vulnerable groups, the promotion of gender equality, and youth empowerment within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The sides further discussed prospects for cooperation in climate action, sustainable natural resource management, and climate change adaptation. In this regard, they highlighted the initiative to establish a Regional Climate Technology Centre for Central Asian countries in Ashgabat as a promising area of collaboration.
In the context of Turkmenistan’s initiative to proclaim 2028 as the International Year of Law, the parties also discussed opportunities for cooperation in promoting the rule of law, effective governance, and institutional development.
