The 19th session of the Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan. The forum was attended by members of the Commission from the Turkmen side, as well as an Uzbek delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjaev. This was reported by the online newspaper "Turkmenistan: Golden Age."
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the current state of bilateral relations, the implementation of previously reached agreements, and reviewed the prospects for further multifaceted cooperation.
The participants of the session discussed the priority areas of bilateral cooperation in the trade and economic sphere, in particular in the fields of energy, transport, logistics, agriculture, the pharmaceutical industry and tourism. A steady growth in trade turnover between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan was noted, and new effective mechanisms are being continuously developed in order to sustain it. The interregional forum, the Turkmen-Uzbek Business Council and trade and industrial exhibitions serve as effective platforms for developing business ties between the private sectors of the two countries.
In November of last year, during the state visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the neighboring country, the Turkmen-Uzbek Border Trade Center was ceremonially inaugurated, which marked a new stage in the development of relations in this sphere. The participants of the meeting noted that the creation of favorable opportunities for trade, economic and business ties contributes to bringing interregional cooperation to a qualitatively new level. In this regard, the parties confirmed their readiness to expand cooperation in order to further increase mutual trade turnover.
Special emphasis was placed on the development of transport infrastructure connecting the economies of the two countries, located at the intersection of the Great Silk Road, which is being revived in a new format. In this context, the increase in freight volumes and the simplification of customs and logistics procedures were noted.
Following the results of the 19th session of the Joint Turkmen-Uzbek Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technical and Cultural Cooperation, the corresponding Protocol was signed.
