Key areas of strategic cooperation and multi-vector relations between Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan defined

During the ninth meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation held in Ashgabat, the main directions of the multi-vector strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan were thoroughly analyzed. During the meeting, representatives of the two countries noted that due to the efforts of the Heads of State, bilateral relations have reached a high level, and the state visit of the Honorable President in June this year gave a new impetus to the cooperation. This was reported by the "Turkmenistan: Golden Age" electronic newspaper.

The trade and economic sector formed an important part of the talks, with the parties emphasizing with satisfaction the annual increase in mutual trade turnover. Concrete plans were defined to raise trade relations to a new level by attracting investments, deploying advanced technologies, and regularly holding business councils. Additionally, an exchange of views took place regarding Turkmenistan's chairmanship in interregional organizations and the upcoming high-level summits.

The energy sector was highlighted as the core of bilateral cooperation. The possession of vast hydrocarbon reserves by both states enables them to coordinate efforts in the global market and implement large-scale infrastructure projects. Along with this, the new power plant under construction in the Balkan province serves as a reliable foundation for improving cooperation in the field of electricity.

In the transport-logistics and infrastructure sectors, the effective utilization of the advantageous geographical location was emphasized. The modern infrastructure of the Turkmenbashi and Baku International Sea Ports transforms the Caspian region into a powerful logistics hub for cargo transportation between Asia and Europe. The parties also discussed relations in digital development and telecommunications.

The cultural-humanitarian, agricultural, and environmental protection spheres were also in the spotlight of the meeting. The establishment of sister-city relations between the cities of the two countries, the organization of Culture Days, and cooperation in science and sports further strengthen the friendship between the nations. At the conclusion of the meeting, a corresponding Protocol embodying specific future tasks was signed.
