On September 8, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova held a meeting with Kristin Hawkins, Chargé d’Affaires ad interim of the Embassy of the United States of America in Turkmenistan, during which the current state and future directions of bilateral cooperation were discussed. The press service of the legislative body reported on this.

During the meeting, Dunyagozel Gulmanova expressed gratitude to Kristin Hawkins for her contribution to the development of friendly relations between the two countries and to strengthening cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian fields. The US diplomat was informed about the main directions of Turkmenistan’s domestic and foreign policy, based on the principles of permanent neutrality, peacefulness, humanism and trust, as well as about the activities of the Mejlis and the ongoing efforts to improve the legislative framework for reforms being implemented in the country.

The sides noted the importance of the resolution “2028 — Year of International Law” adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on the initiative of Turkmenistan in strengthening the role of international law, ensuring global peace and security, achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and promoting effective multilateral cooperation. It was emphasized that Turkmenistan’s mutually beneficial cooperation with countries around the world, including the United States of America, on a bilateral and multilateral basis, particularly within the framework of the United Nations, is consistently developing.

During the conversation, Dunyagozel Gulmanova highlighted the importance of the training visit organized for Mejlis representatives under the “Open World” programme with the support of the US Embassy in Turkmenistan. She noted that the visit contributed to improving parliamentary activities and national legislation, exchanging experience and strengthening friendly relations between the two countries. The continuation of such projects in the future was also supported.
