On September 10, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with the Secretary General of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Sergey Lebedev, who arrived in Turkmenistan to participate in the 111th meeting of the Economic Council of the Commonwealth of Independent States. This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the talks, an exchange of views took place on pressing issues on the CIS agenda. Particular attention was paid to the practical implementation of the priorities of Turkmenistan's chairmanship in the Commonwealth in 2026, as well as preparations for upcoming high-level and top-level events.
The meeting also separately covered preparations for the upcoming sessions of the Council of Foreign Ministers and the Council of Heads of State of the CIS, scheduled to take place on October 7 and 9, 2026, in the Avaza National Tourist Zone. In this regard, the parties discussed organizational aspects of the upcoming high-level events and the substance of their agendas.
The interlocutors also discussed further improvements to interaction mechanisms within the Commonwealth, focusing on expanding practical cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to continuing constructive engagement and joint work aimed at further strengthening multilateral cooperation within the framework of the CIS.
