On September 14, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov departed on a state visit to the Republic of Korea, where he will also take part in the first "Central Asia–Republic of Korea" Summit. This was reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.

The head of Turkmenistan arrived at the capital's International Airport for departure to the Republic of Korea. Officials saw off President Serdar Berdimuhamedov at the airport.

In pursuing a peaceful foreign policy aimed at ensuring universal well-being, neutral Turkmenistan is actively developing friendly dialogue with countries of the world, including states of the Asia-Pacific region.

In the modern era, Turkmen-Korean relations have gained new momentum and are being built on the principles of strategic partnership. In recent years, as a result of regular high-level contacts, constructive interstate cooperation has been marked by a dynamic character.

Diplomatic relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea were established in 1992. In this regard, it is worth noting the significant contribution of Hero-Arkadag in bringing bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level.

The current state visit of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov will open a new page in multifaceted Turkmen-Korean cooperation, the foundations of which were laid by the National Leader of the Turkmen people.

The two countries effectively cooperate both in a bilateral format and within international organizations. A clear example of this is mutual support for initiatives put forward within the UN and other authoritative structures aimed at ensuring universal peace and sustainable development.

Trade and economic relations stand as a priority area of interstate partnership. In this regard, an important role is assigned to cooperation with major Korean companies that are longstanding partners of Turkmenistan. With their participation, large-scale joint projects are being successfully implemented in the country in the oil and gas, petrochemical, and gas chemical industries. This, in turn, promotes the exchange of experience and the wide introduction of advanced technologies into the national economy.

The transport and logistics sphere has also been identified as an important vector of bilateral cooperation. Occupying a favorable geographical position at the crossroads of transport routes across the Eurasian space, Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea are coordinating efforts to create transit corridors.

Cultural and humanitarian ties serve as a traditional bridge of friendship between the peoples of the two countries. The King Sejong Institute Korean Language Training Center operates at the Dovletmammet Azadi Turkmen National Institute of World Languages. In addition, Korean is taught at one institution of higher education and at a general secondary school in Turkmenistan.

In the field of education and science, direct contacts between the academic communities of the two countries are being strengthened. Academic exchange and professional development programs are being implemented, and modern standards and digital technologies are being introduced into the educational process. This, in turn, builds human resource capacity for the country's industrial and technological development.

The two countries actively cooperate in the field of ecology, paying particular attention to the application of advanced "green" technologies, combating climate change, and the rational use of water resources.

Relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea also have a multifaceted character at the regional level, in particular within the framework of the "Central Asia–Republic of Korea" Cooperation Forum. It was established in 2007 on the initiative of the Korean side as a multilateral consultative platform for strengthening trust and expanding interaction between the two regions.

Until 2024, this Forum operated in the format of meetings at the level of foreign ministers. In 2023, Turkmenistan chaired the 16th "Central Asia–Republic of Korea" Cooperation Forum, held in Ashgabat. Participation in the first "Central Asia–Republic of Korea" Summit as part of the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan to the friendly country demonstrates the country's active position in addressing pressing issues of regional development.

A few hours later, the presidential airliner landed at the airport to receive the distinguished guests in the city of Seoul, where the State Flags of the two countries were raised on flagpoles.

Guard of Honor soldiers lined up on both sides of the red carpet leading from the aircraft steps.

An honorary salute was fired in honor of the arrival of the distinguished Turkmen guest.

The head of Turkmenistan was warmly welcomed at the airport by officials of the Republic of Korea and of Turkmenistan.
