On September 26 in Ashgabat, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov met with the Public Defender (Ombudsman) of Georgia Levan Ioseliani.

The sides noted with satisfaction the active dynamics in the development of Turkmen-Georgian relations in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic and cultural-humanitarian spheres.

It was noted that regular contacts at the highest and high levels are a key factor in strengthening interstate ties. In this regard, the state visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to Georgia in July of this year was highlighted.

During the meeting, there was also an exchange of views on the prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in the human rights and parliamentary spheres. In this context, a special role belongs to the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Ombudsman of Georgia Levan Ioseliani expressed gratitude to the Turkmen side for the warm hospitality and congratulated it on the 35th anniversary of the Independence of Turkmenistan.

On the same day, the Ombudsman of Georgia held a meeting at the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the guest was familiarized with the structure of the national Parliament and briefed on the main directions of Turkmenistan's foreign policy, which is based on the principles of positive neutrality, peacefulness, trust, equality and mutual benefit.

Special emphasis was placed on the important role of the Commissioner for Human Rights in Turkmenistan – the Ombudsman, established for the purpose of further strengthening the institutional foundations for the protection of human rights in the country and introducing international experience in this area.

The sides noted that Turkmenistan's foreign policy of positive neutrality pursued on the international stage, and the country's initiatives aimed at developing equal and mutually beneficial cooperation between states and peoples, receive broad support from the international community.
