On October 1, a meeting with a delegation led by Dainius Varnas, Chairman of the Lithuania-Turkmenistan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania, was held in the Mejlis of Turkmenistan. During the talk, issues of further developing friendly relations and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, particularly inter-parliamentary interaction, were discussed in detail. This was reported by the press service of the legislative body.
As reported, during the meeting, the guests were familiarized with Turkmenistan's foreign policy based on the principles of neutrality, peacefulness, and equality, the structure of the national Parliament, as well as the legal framework for large-scale socio-economic reforms. Furthermore, the importance of the Resolution "2028: International Year of International Law," adopted by the UN General Assembly at the initiative of Turkmenistan, in strengthening global peace and effective interstate cooperation was highlighted.
The representatives of the Lithuanian side, in turn, confirmed their strong interest in strengthening bilateral relations with Turkmenistan in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, cultural-humanitarian, and inter-parliamentary spheres. In this context, it was particularly emphasized that cooperation within the "Central Asia – European Union" format opens up great opportunities for developing political dialogue and transport-logistics corridors in the region.
At the conclusion of the talks, both sides unanimously noted that inter-parliamentary dialogue has become an essential part of cooperative relations between the two countries, and that established inter-parliamentary friendship groups significantly enhance opportunities for exchanging experience in the field of lawmaking.
