President of Turkmenistan honorable Serdar Berdimuhamedov took part in a flower-laying ceremony held at the «Halk Hakydasy» Memorial Complex in Ashgabat on October 6 to mark the Day of Remembrance. The Head of State laid flowers at the «Ruhy tagzym», «Milletiň ogullary», and «Baky şöhrat» memorials, dedicated to the victims of the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake and the heroes who gave their lives defending the Motherland. The event was reported by the State News Agency of Turkmenistan.
The ceremony began with the National Anthem of Turkmenistan, followed by the mournful melody «Keçpelek» performed in memory of the deceased. The event was attended by senior government officials, representatives of the military and law enforcement agencies, the diplomatic corps and international organizations, respected elders, students, and residents of the capital.
On the Day of Remembrance, people across the country honored the victims of the 1948 Ashgabat earthquake, heroes who fell defending the Motherland, and participants of the 1941–1945 war. Quranic prayers were recited, and memorial charity meals were held in their honor.
Honorable President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that the Day of Remembrance is dedicated to honoring those who passed away and expressed hope that the prayers and charitable offerings would be accepted. Commemorative events were held in Ashgabat, the city of Arkadag, and throughout all velayats of Turkmenistan.
