On October 8, in the Avaza National Tourist Zone, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, who arrived in Turkmenistan on a visit to take part in high-level events.
Warmly welcoming the distinguished guest, the Turkmen leader thanked his Azerbaijani counterpart for accepting the invitation to visit our country to take part in the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Commonwealth of Independent States, and the Caspian Environmental Summit. In this regard, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the special significance of the Republic of Azerbaijan’s participation in these important international events.
Stressing that Turkmenistan highly values the Azerbaijani President’s personal attention to developing regional cooperation, the Head of State emphasized that the meetings in Avaza are seen as an opportunity for an open exchange of views, the development of joint approaches and the identification of new areas of mutually beneficial partnership. He also expressed confidence that President Ilham Aliyev’s current visit to Turkmenistan would help further strengthen traditionally friendly Turkmen-Azerbaijani relations.
Thanking his hosts for the warm welcome on Turkmen soil, the distinguished guest noted that the international events held in Avaza serve as an effective platform for discussing important issues and working out ways to resolve them. The Azerbaijani leader took the opportunity to convey warm greetings to Hero-Arkadag.
As noted during the meeting, our countries are united by deep historical and cultural ties, which are reflected in the language, literature and rich traditions of the two peoples.
Regular contacts and mutual visits at the highest level are of particular importance in preserving and expanding these ties.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov also noted that he warmly recalls his visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan in June this year, which gave a powerful impetus to the development of bilateral relations. In this connection, the Head of State once again thanked President Ilham Aliyev for his hospitality.
The President of Turkmenistan expressed confidence that today’s meeting would be an important step toward the further development of friendly and fraternal interstate dialogue.
It was emphasized that Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan actively cooperate within international organizations such as the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Commonwealth of Independent States, mutually supporting each other’s projects and initiatives, which confirms the two sides’ interest in building up an effective partnership.
Our countries have great potential for developing cooperation in the energy, transport and logistics sectors. Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan possess rich hydrocarbon reserves, which create opportunities for implementing large-scale infrastructure projects.
Another promising area of partnership is the development of shipping and multimodal transportation across the Caspian Sea, owing to the favorable geographic location of both countries at the crossroads of routes between Asia and Europe.
The Head of State also confirmed Turkmenistan’s commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in culture, science, education and humanitarian exchanges, which will serve as a solid foundation for strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between our peoples.
At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President Ilham Aliyev, expressing confidence that traditionally friendly interstate relations will continue to develop dynamically, wished each other good health and success in their state activities, and the fraternal peoples of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan well-being and prosperity.
