On October 8, in the National Tourist Zone «Awaza», President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, who arrived in Turkmenistan to take part in major international events.
Warmly welcoming the distinguished guest, the Turkmen leader thanked the Tajik leader for accepting the invitation to visit our country to take part in the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan and in the meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State. The special significance of the Republic of Tajikistan’s participation in the important international events held in the Avaza National Tourist Zone was noted.
President Serdar Berdimuhamedov also stressed that Turkmenistan highly values the Tajik President’s personal attention to developing regional cooperation. In this regard, it was noted that the meetings in Avaza are seen as an opportunity for an open exchange of views, the development of joint approaches and the identification of new areas of practical cooperation. The Head of State expressed his conviction that President Emomali Rahmon’s current visit would also help further strengthen friendly relations between the two countries.
Thanking his hosts for the warm welcome on Turkmen soil, the Tajik leader noted the importance of the international events in the National Tourist Zone «Awaza» for identifying priority vectors of mutually beneficial cooperation among the countries of the region and for the steady development of interstate relations across their full spectrum. Congratulating President Serdar Berdimuhamedov on the successful holding of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, President Emomali Rahmon also took the opportunity to convey heartfelt greetings to Hero-Arkadag.
As emphasized during the meeting, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan are bound by traditionally friendly and good-neighborly relations based on mutual respect and trust. In this connection, the Head of State noted the dynamic nature of Turkmen-Tajik cooperation and the regular political dialogue between the two countries. Stressing that Turkmenistan attaches great importance to further strengthening political interaction, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that the established relations of trust create a solid foundation for expanding bilateral partnership.
“We also highly value the constructive cooperation between Turkmenistan and Tajikistan on the international stage, primarily within the United Nations and other international bodies, and look forward to continuing the traditions of mutual support and coordination of positions on pressing issues of the international and regional agenda,” said the Head of State. In this context, the Turkmen side confirmed its interest in expanding trade and economic cooperation, steadily increasing mutual trade and strengthening business contacts between our countries.
Particular attention is also paid to developing partnership in the transport and transit sector. Among the important tasks identified are further expanding transport links and making effective use of the transit potential of both countries. Cooperation in the energy sector is another promising area.
At the same time, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that cultural and humanitarian ties, rooted in the historical and cultural closeness of the two peoples, are an integral part of Turkmen-Tajik cooperation. Our country’s interest in intensifying contacts in culture, education, science and sports, as well as in expanding humanitarian exchanges, was emphasized.
At the end of the meeting, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and President Emomali Rahmon reaffirmed the readiness of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tajikistan to further deepen multifaceted interstate relations, wishing the peoples of the two friendly countries peace, well-being and prosperity.
