Turkmenistan and Tajikistan to support each other’s initiatives at international parliamentary forums

During a working visit to the Republic of Tajikistan, Chairperson of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan Dunyagozel Gulmanova met with Chairman of the Majlisi Milli of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Rustam Emomali. The sides noted that friendly relations between the two countries are developing steadily thanks to the efforts of the heads of state. They agreed to support each other’s initiatives at international parliamentary forums.

Dunyagozel Gulmanova thanked the Tajik side for the invitation to take part in the fourth Inter-Parliamentary Forum of Central Asian States, held in Dushanbe, and for the warm hospitality shown to the Turkmen delegation. She wished the forum success.

It was emphasized that cooperation between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tajikistan in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields is strengthening on a bilateral basis, including within authoritative international organizations. The Chairperson of the Mejlis noted that Turkmenistan, whose permanent neutrality has been recognized three times by the United Nations, attaches great importance to developing mutually beneficial cooperation with the Republic of Tajikistan, other countries and authoritative international organizations. This cooperation is based on the principles of humanism, peacefulness, equality and trust. She expressed gratitude to the friendly Republic of Tajikistan for co-sponsoring a number of important resolutions adopted on the initiative of Turkmenistan.

The sides agreed to continue supporting each other’s initiatives at international parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe and the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Member Nations of the CIS.

It was noted that cooperation between the two countries in the field of international law plays an important role in the further development of broad, equal and mutually beneficial relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tajikistan. It was also noted that these relations create opportunities to further strengthen friendship and brotherhood between the two peoples and to develop interstate cooperation through parliamentary diplomacy.

In conclusion, Dunyagozel Gulmanova invited Rustam Emomali and representatives of the Tajik parliament to take part in several upcoming events. These are the third Ashgabat Conference “Promoting International Law in the Interests of Dialogue, Trust and Security within the OSCE”; a meeting of the Council of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Member Nations of the CIS, to be held during Turkmenistan’s CIS chairmanship in 2026; and the third meeting of heads of parliaments of the Group of Friends of Neutrality member countries, to be held in a hybrid format.
