The Permanent Mission of Turkmenistan to the United Nations has published comprehensive information regarding the country’s membership and chairmanship mandates within UN bodies and multilateral mechanisms for 2027. This document demonstrates neutral Turkmenistan's active engagement in the global dialogue across key areas such as sustainable development, international trade, social policy, science, technology, and sports.
One of the country's key positions on the international stage is its membership in the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for 2026–2028. In addition, Turkmenistan will chair the Group of Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDCs) in 2027–2028. This mandate will enable the promotion of practical steps toward developing sustainable transport systems, simplifying trade procedures, and implementing the Avaza Program of Action.
Furthermore, starting January 1, 2027, Turkmenistan will begin its four-year term on the Commission on Science and Technology for Development. At the same time, the country will continue its membership in UNCITRAL, the UN Commission on Population and Development, the Commission for Social Development, and the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport.
In addition, Turkmenistan is a permanent member of the Executive Committee of the Programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the UNCTAD Trade and Development Board, while also permanently chairing the Organizing Committee of the United Nations Friendship Games. The combination of memberships and chairmanship mandates reaffirms Ashgabat's commitment to consistently strengthening multifaceted cooperation with the United Nations and its agencies.
