On March 19, the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President of the country Serdar Berdimuhamedov was held in the capital of Turkmenistan, according to the website "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".
The ceremony was attended by members of the Government and the Security Council, heads of state bodies and structures, heads of foreign diplomatic missions, and journalists.
The inauguration took place in the main hall of the Ruhyet Palace in the capital. The State Flag of Turkmenistan, the Standard of the President of Turkmenistan, the Constitution of Turkmenistan and the Holy Quran were brought into the hall.
Chairman of the Central Election Commission Gulmurad Muradov presented Serdar Berdimuhamedov with a certificate of the President of Turkmenistan. The new head of state laid his hand on the Constitution and took the presidential oath, pledging to "strictly follow the constitution and laws of Turkmenistan, guarantee the rights and freedoms of citizens, conscientiously fulfill the duties assigned to the President of Turkmenistan."
Elections for the head of state in Turkmenistan are held every seven years. During the current elections, held on March 12, according to the CEC, 97.17% or 3,362,052 people voted. Serdar Berdimuhamedov as a candidate from the Democratic Party won 72.97% of the vote.
