  IRU representatives paid a working visit to Turkmenistan

Representatives of the International Road Transport Union (IRU) were in Turkmenistan on a working visit from January 16 to 21, the country's customs service reports.

Director of the Department of International Road Transport and Transit Services Tatiana Reibel and consultant of the Department Vakhtang Zarandiya met with the Chairman of the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan during their visit. During the meeting, issues related to the introduction of the digital TIR system, simplification of transit and bilateral international road transport operations on the territory of Turkmenistan, digitization of the used TIR book and provision of preliminary cargo information were discussed.

The draft Memorandum of understanding between the IRU, the Customs services of Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran on improving the safety of transportation through the TIR system was also considered.

The guests visited the Artyk customs post located on the Turkmen-Iranian state border, where they got acquainted with its infrastructure and material and technical base. They had the opportunity to see clearly how the "green stripes" are used here.

Vakhtang Zarandiya held working meetings with employees of the Service, the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen Association of International Road Carriers. During the meetings, technical issues of digitization of the TIR Carnet used in international road transport in Turkmenistan were discussed, the source reports.
