Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan Digitalize Mutual Freight Traffic

For the first time freight traffic under the "digital TIR" system was established between Farap Highway and Alat customs posts at the Turkmen-Uzbek border, news and information service “Business Turkmenistan” reports with reference to the State Customs Service of Turkmenistan.

According to the report, the customs authorities of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan have successfully introduced digital transit guarantees for the movement of goods across the customs border.

Implementation of the pilot project on digitization of TIR between Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan is the result of successful cooperation between customs authorities of the two countries as well as the project "Digitization of TIR operations in Central Asian transit corridors to strengthen regional cooperation and trade" of the Society, International Cooperation of Germany (GIZ), the International Road Transport Union (IRU), national associations of international road carriers THADA and AIRCUZ.

With the continuation of the digitalization of TIR, conditions have been created to further increase Turkmenistan's export and transit capacity, which marks the formation of safe and secure modes of transport and crossings for the Central Asian region, the report notes.
