National Leader of the Turkmen people: The fuel and energy sector is a strategic vector of Turkmen-Chinese cooperation
“The fuel and energy sector is a strategic vector of Turkmen-Chinese cooperation. This is understandable, as our states possess enormous potential in this field,” said the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in an interview with He Yanke, a host of the Chinese TV channel CGTN, during his friendly visit to the People’s Republic of China. In this context, Hero-Arkadag emphasized the Turkmenistan–China gas pipeline, which was commissioned on December 14, 2009. As of March 1, 2026, approximately 460 billion cubic meters of natural gas have been supplied to China via the Turkmenistan–China gas pipeline. Currently, work is underway to increase gas export volumes to 65 billion cubic meters per year. “Such a gas strategy meets the long-term interests of Turkmenistan and China and corresponds to global economic development trends. At the same time, the role of energy supplies is increasing. It also demonstrates the development of genuine cooperation based on equality, opportunities, and future prospects,” Hero-Arkadag emphasized, adding that a powerful infrastructure network for exporting Turkmen energy resources to China is being jointly and consistently developed to ensure long-term, uninterrupted supplies. The Chinese company CNPC has become the winner of an international tender for the development of one of the world’s largest gas fields, «Galkynyş», located in the southeast of Turkmenistan. This project is intended to ensure additional annual supplies of 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas. During the interview, the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan also spoke about the prospects and objectives of Turkmen-Chinese interstate cooperation and the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and China in the cultural and humanitarian sphere.
