Turkmenistan has carried out effective work to improve its legislative framework during the first quarter of the year
At the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held via a digital system on April 3 under the chairmanship of the Honorable President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, the socio-economic indicators of the country achieved in the first three months of 2026 were reviewed. The Chairperson of the Mejlis, Dunyagozel Gulmanova, provided information on the reforms implemented in the country's legislative system during January — March. This was reported by the "Turkmenistan: Golden Age" online newspaper. Currently, the working groups of the national parliament are working on several important draft laws aimed at protecting the rights and legal interests of citizens, ensuring the industrial safety of production facilities, and bringing accounting and financial reporting in line with international standards. The new documents also cover priority areas such as supporting entrepreneurship, protecting the environment and biological water resources, and improving the efficiency of the customs and migration services. Parliamentarians also took an active part in ensuring a high organizational level for the elections held on March 29 of this year. Representatives of the Mejlis, together with political parties and public organizations, conducted explanatory work among the population, providing organizational and methodological assistance during the election season. Effective steps were also taken in the sphere of international cooperation. During the reporting period, credentials were accepted from the ambassadors of the Republic of Chad and the Republic of Indonesia. Additionally, 8 bilateral meetings with foreign partners and 26 training seminars in cooperation with international organizations were held. Turkmen deputies made 5 working visits to foreign countries to study international experience. Among the events worthy of special mention are the conference with the UN Population Fund on promoting gender equality, as well as the meetings of inter-parliamentary friendship groups with Pakistan and Mongolia held via a digital system. Summarizing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the systematic improvement of the national legislative framework in accordance with the requirements of the time must remain a priority direction of state policy.
