Turkmenistan, Russia, and Afghanistan plan to create a new transport corridor

Turkmenistan, Russia, and Afghanistan plan to sign a tripartite Agreement on the creation of a new transit-transport corridor. This was reported on the website of the "Balkan" Shipbuilding and Repair Yard of the State Service of Maritime and River Transport of Turkmenistan, citing the "Tolonews" agency.

As noted in the report, the document is expected to be adopted during the international forum "Russia — Islamic World: KazanForum," which will take place in May in Kazan, the capital of Tatarstan.

The initiative to launch the new transit-transport corridor was put forward by the Minister of Industry and Commerce of Afghanistan, Nuruddin Azizi. The first cargo shipments via this corridor are expected to originate from Tatarstan. The project is being coordinated by the Minister of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan, Oleg Korobchenko.

"The border with Afghanistan in the southeast of Turkmenistan is over 800 kilometers long, a portion of which stretches along the Amu Darya River. The Ymamnazar–Akina and Serhetabat–Torghundi checkpoints operate between the two countries," the report states.
