Freight turnover plan across all modes of transport in Lebap velayat was exceeded by 3.9%

On April 10, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Batyr Annayev reported at a government meeting on the work being carried out in Lebap velayat within the framework of improving the national transport and communications complex. This was reported by the online newspaper “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.

As reported, the growth rate of freight turnover across all modes of transport in the region compared to the same period of the previous year amounted to 103.9 percent, while the velayat’s share nationwide stood at 13.3 percent.

During the reporting period, the growth rate of passenger turnover across all modes of transport in Lebap velayat compared to the same period of the previous year was 100.6 percent, while the region’s share nationwide amounted to 14.4 percent.

Within the Ministry of Communications, measures are being taken in the velayat to expand access to fixed-line and mobile communication networks, improve the quality of services provided to users, and modernize the material and technical base of relevant facilities.

During the period under review, Lebap velayat’s share in the country’s total freight turnover under the Ministry of Railway Transport amounted to 14.6 percent, while the corresponding figure for passenger turnover was 4.2 percent.

After hearing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized the need for the optimal use of the country’s logistics potential, including that of Lebap velayat, by creating favorable conditions for international transport and transit routes, systematically improving the operation of the international airports of Turkmenabat and Kerki, and ensuring the proper functioning of the passenger bus terminal located in the city of Turkmenabat.

The Head of State also instructed the Deputy Prime Minister to continue work on the renewal and modernization of the railway system.
