With the participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, a ceremonial opening of the Mary–Turkmenabat section of the Ashgabat–Turkmenabat high-speed highway took place on April 10, 2026. This was reported by the online newspaper “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”.

Upon arrival in Lebap Velayat, Arkadagly Hero Serdar proceeded by helicopter to the site of the highway opening ceremony.

Addressing the numerous participants of the ceremony, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that state programs for the development of the regions of the independent Motherland are being successfully implemented. He emphasized that large-scale work within the framework of the country’s socio-economic development is currently being carried out, and warmly congratulated everyone on this joyful event, highlighting the opening of the Mary–Turkmenabat section of the Ashgabat–Turkmenabat high-speed highway.

The President further underlined that the international-class highway consists of six lanes and fully meets global standards. All necessary conditions for passengers and drivers have been created along the new road.

The Head of State expressed satisfaction that the high-speed highway connecting the Ahal, Mary, and Lebap velayats with the capital will ensure the transportation of passengers and cargo in a very short time.

The President then ceremonially cut the symbolic ribbon amid applause from those present.

After the opening, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov gave his blessing for the start of traffic and drove onto the high-speed highway. Along the route, he was warmly greeted by participants of the ceremony.

After the event, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov warmly bid farewell to the participants and departed by helicopter to the International Airport of Turkmenabat, from where he flew to the capital by airliner.
