On April 15, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Deputy Minister Mahri Bashimova held talks with Cordula Wohlmuther, the Acting Regional Director for Europe of the "UN – Tourism" organization. This was reported by the ministry's information service.
The core of the meeting was the ongoing "TurkmenTravel – 2026" international conference and exhibition in the capital. M. Bashimova noted the significance of the participation of the international organization's representatives in this event and highly praised the current state of bilateral relations.
The parties discussed the upcoming tasks for improving the tourism sector, developing relevant infrastructure, and enhancing the professional qualifications of specialists. Special attention was also paid to the implementation of the partnership Framework Program between Turkmenistan and the UN for 2026–2030.
During the talks, the importance of declaring 2027 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism and the Roadmap adopted in this direction was emphasized. The Turkmen side confirmed its full support for these initiatives and explored new opportunities for attracting innovation and investment to the sector.
Practical steps were also reviewed during the meeting. In particular, views were exchanged regarding a specialized training seminar organized on that same day for students and professionals. Additionally, Turkmenistan plans to take a more active role in the elective bodies of this prestigious organization and in future regional-level meetings.
