On April 15, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov received the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Italian Republic to Turkmenistan, Martin Brok, who presented his credentials to the head of state, according to the online newspaper “Turkmenistan: Golden age.”
During the exchange of views on the agenda of bilateral cooperation, the interlocutors noted that both countries have significant potential to expand partnership in the trade and economic, energy, transport and logistics, and agricultural sectors.
It was emphasized that Turkmenistan attaches special importance to the development of cooperation in the fuel and energy sector, where productive interaction has already been established with leading Italian companies. A clear example is the effective cooperation with the well-known Italian company ENI, which is successfully implementing major projects in the country.
The transport and logistics sector was also identified as one of the priority areas of interstate relations. As noted, Turkmenistan is gradually implementing a number of large-scale projects aimed at developing transport communications across the Eurasian space.
Education, science, and culture were also highlighted as important areas of Turkmen–Italian relations. In particular, active cooperation is being carried out in the fields of archaeology and museum studies.
In addition, there is growing interest in the Italian language in Turkmenistan, which is currently taught at higher educational institutions across the country.
At the end of the meeting, the diplomat stressed that Turkmenistan is regarded in Italy as a reliable partner committed to its legal status of permanent neutrality and assured that he would make every effort to further strengthen friendly relations between the two countries.
