A delegation of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan took part in the opening ceremony of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union held in Istanbul, Türkiye. The event, scheduled from April 15 to 19, is themed “Mobilizing hope for the future generations, protecting peace and ensuring justice.” This was reported by the press service of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan.
A representative of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan spoke at the Forum of Women Parliamentarians held within the framework of the Assembly. In her speech, she emphasized the fundamental reforms being implemented in the country to protect the rights and interests of women and to enhance their role in state governance and socio-political life. In this regard, attention was drawn to the improvement of legislation on state guarantees of equal rights and opportunities for women and men in Turkmenistan, as well as the implementation of national plans.
It was also particularly highlighted that the number of women is steadily increasing among deputies of the Mejlis of Turkmenistan, as well as in local self-government bodies and state administration institutions. Turkmenistan’s initiative to declare 2028 the “Year of International Law” will become an important step in protecting women’s rights at the global level and fostering a culture of peace.
