The next summit of the International Transport Forum (ITF) is being held in Leipzig, Germany, from May 6 to 8, 2026. A delegation from Turkmenistan is participating in this prestigious event, organized under the presidency of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This year's conference theme is "Financing Sustainable Transport," marking a significant stage in a three-year program aimed at ensuring the resilience of the sector. This was reported by the information service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The summit brings together transport ministers from 69 countries, heads of major industrial companies, renowned academics, and representatives of international organizations. The Turkmen delegation is led by Suleyman Durdyyev, Deputy Chairman of the "Turkmenhowayollary" State Service. The delegation includes high-level representatives from the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Railway Transport.
During the forum, investment issues of global importance are being discussed. In particular, participants are exchanging views on developing new financial strategies to maintain the resilience of the transport system against modern threats such as climate change, cyberattacks, and geopolitical instability. Attendees are identifying specific ways to enhance the stability of international transit corridors.
Turkmenistan's participation in this forum is a practical continuation of the country's international transport initiatives. Under the leadership of the National Leader Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, Turkmenistan pays great attention to modernizing transport infrastructure and opening new logistical routes. The country's policy is aimed at forming a reliable transit system that meets the requirements of world trade.
Currently, Turkmenistan is recognized as one of the states actively promoting "transport diplomacy." Digitalizing the industry, implementing innovations, and developing environmentally friendly modes of transport are priority areas of state policy. By becoming an important hub in the Eurasian space, Turkmenistan significantly contributes to strengthening economic cooperation in the region and the world through its transit potential.
