Turkmenistan and Cambodia open new horizons of cooperation

From May 8 to 9, 2026, as part of the visit of the Turkmen delegation to Phnom Penh, a series of meetings were held by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov with representatives of the Government and business circles of the Kingdom of Cambodia. This was reported by press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Gurbanov met with the Permanent Secretary of State, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, It Sophhea. The interlocutors discussed in detail the development of cooperation in the political-diplomatic, trade-economic, and cultural-humanitarian spheres. Particular attention was paid to enhancing regular political dialogue, strengthening contacts at governmental and parliamentary levels, and expanding the legal contractual framework.

Prospects for expanding economic cooperation were the main focus of the meeting with a President of the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, Neak Oknha Kith Meng. The Turkmen side emphasized the importance of establishing direct business contacts between entrepreneurs of the two countries. In this regard, it was proposed to intensify cooperation through the organization of business forums, trade missions, and thematic online meetings.

As part of the visit, a meeting was also held with the Minister of Tourism of Cambodia, Huot Hak. The sides discussed opportunities for implementing joint projects in the tourism industry, viewing it as an important tool for bringing peoples closer together. The exchange of experience in managing tourism facilities and the promotion of the cultural and historical heritage of both countries on the international stage were also discussed. In order to develop cooperation in the tourism sector, the sides agreed to develop and sign a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in tourism.
