Turkmenistan and Japan discuss expansion of scientific and educational cooperation

A delegation from Turkmenistan, led by a Vice-Rector of an International University for the Humanities and Development of Turkmenistan N. Shyhliyev, held a series of meetings in Tokyo on May 12, 2026, during a visit focused on science, education, and international cooperation. This was reported by a press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During a meeting with a President of the Turkmen–Japanese Science and Technology Association, G. Koinuma, the sides discussed priority areas of cooperation.

The parties considered opportunities for expanding bilateral scientific and educational cooperation, in particular the development of humanities education, in-depth language learning, the creation of exchange programs, specialist training, the introduction of the KOSEN education system, and cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence.

At a meeting with a Deputy Director of the Department of East and Central Asia and the Caucasus of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Y. Sonoyama, the sides discussed establishing cooperation between Turkmen higher education institutions and JICA in areas of mutual interest, as well as implementing a program for the mutual exchange of specialists in Japanese language teaching in the field of education and science, funded by JICA.

JICA also invited students of higher education institutions of the country to participate in a short-term online artificial intelligence course titled «Unlock Your Potential with Data Science and Artificial Intelligence».
