On May 14, 2026, a Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Ahmet Gurbanov met with an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of a Republic of Korea to Turkmenistan Lee Won-jae. This was reported by a press service of a Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the diplomats discussed the development of political and diplomatic cooperation, including regular inter-MFA consultations, interparliamentary contacts, and interaction within international organizations, primarily the UN.

Attention was also paid to cooperation within the multilateral «Central Asia – Republic of Korea» format.

During the meeting, the strategic and long-term focus of trade and economic cooperation was emphasized. The significant contribution of Korean companies to the implementation of major projects in the gas chemical industry, transport infrastructure, and shipbuilding was emphasized.

The parties also emphasized the importance of cultural and humanitarian interaction. Active cooperation in education, science, sports, and Korean language studies in Turkmenistan was noted. It was emphasized that these contacts contribute to strengthening mutual understanding and bringing the peoples of the two countries closer together.
