Turkmenistan participates in the session of the World Health Assembly

In Geneva, the 79th session of the World Health Assembly began its work with the participation of the delegation of Turkmenistan. The Turkmen representatives, led by the Deputy Minister of Health and Medical Industry Azat Ovezov, are discussing important issues such as strengthening international cooperation and ensuring the sustainable development of national public health systems at this international forum held between May 18 and 23. This was reported by the information service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

Within the framework of the session, a bilateral meeting was held between the head of the delegation of Turkmenistan, Azat Ovezov, and the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. The sides highly evaluated the current level of long-term cooperation, detailed future priority areas, and noted the effectiveness of joint programs. The Turkmen side also officially invited the WHO Director-General to visit Turkmenistan in October 2026 to participate in major events of regional significance.

In addition, an informal meeting of the health ministers and heads of delegations of Central Asian countries with the Regional Director for Europe of the WHO, Dr. Hans Kluge, was organized at the WHO Headquarters on May 17. The main objective of the talks held around the "round table" was to coordinate the final stage of institutionalizing the Roadmap for Health and Well-being in Central Asia for 2026–2030 (RMCA 2.0) and to officially adopt it as the main regional format for strategic cooperation.

The meeting reviewed sequential steps to implement the Roadmap, as well as the possibilities of aligning it with other high-level regional processes, such as events within the framework of the Year of Health in the CIS. Along with this, during separate bilateral talks with Dr. Hans Kluge, the sides noted future opportunities for further strengthening regional relations in the healthcare system and cooperation in public health solutions.
