UN General Assembly adopts a Resolution initiated by Turkmenistan

On May 20, 2026, during the 82nd plenary meeting of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, a Resolution titled «The Role and Importance of a Policy of Neutrality in Maintaining and Strengthening International Peace, Security and Sustainable Development» was unanimously adopted. This was reported by a Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

The co-sponsors of the Resolution, which was developed on the initiative of Turkmenistan, included 47 states.

The Resolution particularly highlights the efforts of the Government of Turkmenistan to institutionalize dialogue on issues of neutrality, preventive diplomacy and peace in accordance with the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations.

As a permanently neutral state, Turkmenistan intends to continue implementing practical steps aimed at creating an atmosphere of cooperation, mutual understanding and respectful dialogue as the main and determining condition capable of ensuring stability and sustainable development at both global and regional levels.
