UN recognizes Turkmenistan’s Role in promoting multilateral partnership

On 28 May 2026, a Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov met with a President of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly Annalena Baerbock in New York, according to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the Minister briefed the President of the General Assembly on Turkmenistan’s priority areas within the framework of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, covering issues related to international politics and security, sustainable development, the climate agenda, and humanitarian cooperation.

Particular attention was given to Turkmenistan’s initiatives in preventive diplomacy, the promotion of international law, the development of a culture of dialogue and trust in international relations, as well as the activities of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in Ashgabat.

The parties also reviewed the implementation of the United Nations Decade of Sustainable Transport for 2026–2035, as well as climate and environmental issues, including Turkmenistan’s initiatives to establish regional climate centres and promote the Caspian Environmental Initiative.

In the context of humanitarian cooperation, the sides discussed women’s and youth empowerment, the advancement of the Women, Peace and Security and Youth, Peace and Security agendas, as well as the development of regional dialogue and cooperation in these areas.

Annalena Baerbock welcomed Turkmenistan’s role in promoting multilateral cooperation, supporting the role of the United Nations and the General Assembly, advancing the Sustainable Development Goals, and contributing to the international transport agenda.
