Turkmenistan and China outline ways to strengthen cooperation in the gas sector

On 27 May 2026 in New York, a meeting was held between a Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Rashid Meredov, and Wang Yi, a Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, a Head of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, according to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the talks, particular attention was paid to cooperation in the energy sector, primarily the gas industry, where issues of further promotion of joint projects and expansion of long-term partnership were discussed.

Prospects for cooperation in the trade-economic, innovation-technological, and cultural-humanitarian spheres were also reviewed.

The high effectiveness of cooperation between Turkmenistan and China within the United Nations was particularly emphasized. The sides confirmed their readiness to further strengthen coordination on international platforms and to provide mutual support for the initiatives and proposals of both countries.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides reaffirmed their mutual commitment to continued close cooperation in order to ensure the practical implementation of reached agreements and further strengthen their strategic partnership.
