On the occasion of World Bicycle Day, celebrated in Turkmenistan on June 3rd, a mass bicycle rally was held in the capital city of Ashgabat. The participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov in this large-scale sporting event, which has now become a noble tradition in our country, further enhanced the meaning and significance of the holiday. Promoting a healthy lifestyle and sports culture, this event is aimed at strengthening the physical and spiritual health of the population. This was reported by the electronic newspaper "Turkmenistan: Golden Age".
Currently, under the leadership of the Head of State, the initiated reforms to develop the physical culture and sports system are being successfully continued in the country. Clear evidence of this includes the modern sports and health complexes regularly built and put into operation in the capital and velayats, as well as the high results achieved by Turkmen athletes in international competitions. Along with this, the declaration of June 3rd as "World Bicycle Day" at the initiative of Turkmenistan and the adoption of relevant UN Resolutions are a success of the country's sports diplomacy at the global level.
This year's mass bicycle rally started near the "Bicycle" monument located at the intersection of Chandybil Avenue and Bekrewe Street in the capital. The Chairperson of the Mejlis, members of the Government, heads of military and law enforcement agencies, various ministries and higher education institutions, representatives of public organizations and mass media gathered here. The event was also actively attended by the heads of diplomatic missions of foreign states and international organizations in Turkmenistan, children from the "Döwletliler köşgi" Palace, student youth, and athletes of the national team.
Prior to the rally, following musical performances by master artists, the Head of State gave the start to the mass bicycle ride. Following the President's example, the participants moved along Chandybil and Bitarap Turkmenistan avenues, enjoying the beautiful architectural appearance of Ashgabat and the wonderful nature of the Kopetdag foothills. As the Head of State noted, this international holiday occupies a special place in the national calendar, celebrating the high principles of friendship, sports, and humanism.
These measures implemented in the country aim to support social-ecological projects and strengthen a healthy lifestyle in society. Cycling is one of the most accessible and beneficial sports fields for people of all ages, playing an important role in the spiritual and physical development of children and youth. Regular care is provided at the state level to the younger generation, especially to children in need of support. As an example of this, it was noted that on the occasion of World Bicycle Day, new bicycles were presented to the children of the "Döwletliler köşgi" Palace on behalf of the Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov Charitable Foundation, and they participated in today's rally with great enthusiasm.
In the context of global climate change, the bicycle stands out as the most environmentally clean and sustainable means of transport. Turkmenistan views ensuring ecological well-being as a primary condition for sustainable development and actively develops ecological diplomacy in the international arena. The country's accession to international conventions and its regional-level initiatives contribute to global efforts to protect the environment.
Within the framework of the "Saglyk" (Health) State Program aimed at improving the national healthcare system, protecting the population's health and extending life expectancy are priority directions of state policy. The President of the National Olympic Committee of Turkmenistan, Head of State Serdar Berdimuhamedov, pays great attention to the development of the Olympic movement in the country and sports diplomacy in strengthening peaceful relations between nations.
The mass bicycle rally concluded at the finish line near the Ruhyyet Palace in the capital. Here, the participants of the rally once again noted the international significance of World Bicycle Day and congratulated the Head of State on the holiday. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov also congratulated the gathered people on the sports holiday, wishing them sound health and success. This event once again demonstrated the unity of Turkmen society and its commitment to a healthy lifestyle to the whole world.
