On June 5, the Honorable President Serdar Berdimuhamedov sent a congratulatory message to the environmental sector workers and the people of Turkmenistan on the occasion of World Environment Day. In his address, the Head of State noted that the traditions of the Turkmen people's careful attitude towards nature are being continued, and emphasized the successful implementation of state programs adopted to ensure the ecological sustainability of the country. This was reported by the "Turkmenistan: Golden Age" electronic newspaper.
As noted in the message, the environmental policy pursued in Turkmenistan is aimed at the rational use of natural resources, the preservation and enrichment of flora and fauna, and passing them on to future generations. Thanks to the nationwide tree-planting campaigns held every year in the country, the forest zones around the capital Ashgabat, the city of Arkadag, which holds the status of a "smart" and "green" city, and the velayats are systematically expanded. Furthermore, the positive impacts of the "Avaza" National Tourist Zone and the "Altyn Asyr" Turkmen Lake in the heart of the Karakum Desert on the environmental situation of the region were specially highlighted.
The President highly praised Turkmenistan's cooperation with international organizations in ensuring ecological security. Having joined dozens of UN environmental conventions, the country is actively implementing sustainable development programs, including the Global Methane Pledge. At the sessions of the UN General Assembly, Turkmenistan put forward important initiatives to establish the Regional Center for Climate Change Technologies in Central Asia and the Regional Center for Combating Desertification.
At the end of the letter, the Head of State emphasized the significance of the international environmental initiatives of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, and stated that the efforts to beautify nature will be continued in the future. The President wished the environmental protection system workers and all compatriots good health, family well-being, and success in their responsible work.
