Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan summarizes performance for January–May of this Year

At a Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan meeting held via a digital system on June 5, a Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov reported on the performance results of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) for the first five months of the current year. This was reported by an online newspaper «Turkmenistan: Golden age».
It was noted that during the designated period, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs carried out relevant work aimed at implementing the foreign policy of the President of Turkmenistan and fulfilling the tasks set to expand bilateral and multilateral relations of the neutral Motherland with countries around the world and international organizations.
As is well known, priority importance in the development of international cooperation is attached to visits and meetings at the highest level. In this regard, it was reported that visits were organized for the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov: on February 16–19 to the United States of America, on March 18–19 to the People's Republic of China, on April 8–9 to the Republic of Austria, on May 13–14 to the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation, and on May 16–17 to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Additionally, on April 21–22 of this year, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov paid a working visit to the Republic of Kazakhstan to participate in the Regional Environmental Summit and the regular meeting of the Council of Heads of Founder States of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
One of the key vectors of our country's foreign policy strategy is the development of interaction with authoritative international organizations. In this context, during his visit to the Republic of Austria, Hero-Arkadag held meetings with the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, and the UN Under-Secretary-General.
Furthermore, on January 21–23, the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN visited Turkmenistan, and on March 17–19, the Secretary-General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia paid a visit.
Concurrently, within the framework of Turkmenistan's chairmanship of the CIS in 2026, meetings of various councils and commissions, sessions, and other events are being conducted. Thus, on May 22, a meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of Government was held in the capital, which the heads of government of the Commonwealth states visited our country to attend.
During the reporting period, 293 foreign delegations visited Turkmenistan through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while 528 domestic delegations were dispatched abroad.
In January–May of this year, 216 meetings at various levels were held via the digital system.
Moreover, during the specified period, 909 official negotiations and meetings were organized in Turkmenistan in cooperation with foreign states and international organizations.
The treaty and legal framework of our country's international relations was supplemented by 60 documents.
It was also reported that relevant work is being carried out to conduct political consultations between foreign ministries. Thus, during the period under review, bilateral political consultations took place at the level of foreign ministers between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Austria, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and the People's Republic of China, as well as with the Secretary of State of the United States of America.
Additionally, during the reporting period, negotiations were held with the UN Secretary-General, the President of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, and the Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty Organization.
Along with this, in January–May 2026, consultations were held with the foreign ministries of the Republic of India, the Kingdom of Morocco, the Russian Federation, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Zimbabwe, the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Republic of Uganda, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of Armenia, the Republic of Belarus, and the Kingdom of Cambodia.
One of the important directions of the foreign policy activities of neutral Turkmenistan is the development of diplomatic relations through the embassies of foreign states.
Systematic steps are also being taken to strengthen ties with the countries of the Middle East. In this context, it was reported that during the reporting period, the diplomatic mission of the Republic of Iraq was opened and commenced its work in Turkmenistan.
In January–May 2026, credentials were accepted from the newly appointed Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Turkmenistan representing the Republic of Chad, the Republic of Indonesia, the Italian Republic, the Republic of Korea, the Argentine Republic, and the Arab Republic of Egypt.
At the same time, the Ambassadors Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Kingdom of Thailand and the United States of America, as well as the Permanent Representatives of our country to the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, presented their credentials, officially assuming their duties.
Summarizing the report, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that the foreign policy pursued by independent neutral Turkmenistan serves the goals of global well-being.
In this regard, the Head of State instructed the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to continue work on expanding cooperation with countries worldwide in the trade, economic, cultural, humanitarian, scientific, and educational spheres, as well as broadening constructive interaction with authoritative international and regional organizations.
