Turkmenistan's transport and communications sector demonstrates steady growth

During a digital Cabinet of Ministers meeting held on June 5, Vice-Premier Batyr Annayev reported on the performance of the sectors under his supervision for January–May 2026. This was reported by an online newspaper «Turkmenistan: Golden age».
According to the report, the growth rate for work performed and services rendered across the transport and communications sector reached 114.2 percent.
Compared to the same period last year, the growth rate of cargo transportation via road, rail, air, sea, and river transport stood at 101.5 percent, while passenger transportation grew by 103 percent.
During the reporting period, the growth rate for services provided by the Ministry of Railway Transport reached 106.8 percent; the Ministry of Automobile Transport – 122.7 percent; a State Service «Türkmenhowaýollary» (Turkmenistan Airlines) – 117.4 percent; the State Service of Maritime and River Transport – 104.9 percent; and the Ministry of Communications – 115.3 percent.
After hearing the report, a President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted the need for systematic improvement within the transport and communications sector to effectively address the tasks at hand.
In this regard, the Head of State instructed the Vice-Premier to pay special attention to increasing the volume of international cargo transit and modernizing the sector's material and technical infrastructure by efficiently utilizing the country's transport and transit potential.
