Consultations between Turkmenistan and an IMF mission open in Ashgabat
On June 8, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan hosted a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister Serdar Muhammetdurdyyev and a delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which arrived in Ashgabat as part of the traditional Article IV Consultation Mission. The meeting was announced by a press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Particular attention during the meeting was paid to the analysis of external economic factors influencing the regional and global economic agenda. The importance of Turkmenistan's consistent steps toward diversifying export routes, modernizing transport and logistics infrastructure, and effectively utilizing national potential to minimize external risks was underscored. A separate topic of discussion was Turkmenistan's progress in integrating into the global economic system, including the country's accession process to the World Trade Organization (WTO). IMF representatives highly commended the comprehensive work carried out by the Turkmen side on harmonizing national legislation and modernizing the statistical system in accordance with high international standards. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides confirmed their mutual readiness to continue a constructive and pragmatic dialogue.
