Turkmenistan and Tajikistan discuss strengthening cooperation within UNESCO

On June 9, 2026, a meeting between a Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Mahri Bashimova and an Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tajikistan to Turkmenistan Vafo Niyatbekzoda took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan. Executive Secretary of the National Commission for UNESCO Chinar Rustemova also participated in the meeting. This was reported by a press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of cooperation within the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

It was noted that Turkmenistan and the Republic of Tajikistan are active participants in international cooperation in the field of preservation and promotion of intangible cultural heritage. The parties emphasized the importance of further strengthening interaction within the relevant UNESCO mechanisms.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their commitment to further development of Turkmen-Tajik cooperation both at the bilateral level and within international organizations, including UNESCO.
