Turkmenistan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vepa Hajiyev addressed a briefing of the United Nations Security Council on the agenda item «The Situation in Afghanistan» on June 8, 2026. This was reported by a press service of a Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
During the address, it was noted that Turkmenistan, as a direct neighbor of Afghanistan, is interested in the earliest possible stabilization of the situation in that country. It was emphasized that peace, security, and sustainable development of Afghanistan are of great importance for ensuring the stability and well-being of the entire region.
The Turkmen side drew attention to the significance of trade, economic, and infrastructure cooperation as one of the key factors for the long-term stabilization of Afghanistan. In this regard, the role of major regional projects implemented with Turkmenistan's participation was highlighted, including the TAPI gas pipeline, the TAP power transmission line, as well as railway and transport initiatives.
Turkmenistan also reaffirmed the importance of continuing international dialogue on Afghanistan, including the Doha Process, and advocated for the advancement of practical, balanced, and forward-looking approaches in the interests of ensuring peace, stability, and sustainable development of Afghanistan and the region as a whole.
